I hate love Tuesday mornings because the weekly Garbage collection in my area is that day. This means I have to be up a bit earlier than usual to tidy up and deposit the waste at the pickup joint. It wasn’t funny when a couple of weeks ago, I missed the Garbage truck. I had to run all the way across the road in order to catch up with the collectors. I wonder what I’d have done with the Waste; take it back home? Never! Thank God for small favors, I can’t even begin to imagine that.

So I used to be rather irritated about putting out waste; I mean who likes such a boring/dirty/foul-smelling chore? But just this morning, I had a re-think; it’s actually a relief to be made free of a whole week’s load of Garbage! Putting out Wastes should be considered a liberating task. Multiple benefits are involved: a breath of fresh air, a clean, healthy environment with less germs, toxic substances, house-hold pests and so on. I’ve decided to cultivate a more embracing attitude towards this unpopular chore.

Which brings me to this. Thank God for Christ’s death on the cross, through his victory, we as believers no longer have to carry the burden of our sins with us. The guilts, fears and frustrations we would have otherwise been trapped with, no longer count. What a Privilege to be shown such great grace!

My admonition is for us to continuously let go of everything that is toxic to our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. According to Hebrews 12:1 (AMP), we are to throw aside every unnecessary weight and sin that entangles us, so that we can run with patience and persistence the race that is set before us.

It’s time to clean-out and gather the dust, debris, and other forms of dirt we might have accumulated over time. Anything that is stopping the efficiency and effectiveness of our walk with God should go. Enough of the self-destructive habits & self-defeating attitudes we’ve accommodated. Clutters of Pretence, Slothfulness, Pride, Selfishness, Jealousy, Lies, Unforgiveness and other mindless behaviors must be kicked out! No more room for such junk. Our lives should be saturated with love, joy, peace…and every good work.

It’s a new dawn. Let us embrace and enjoy the freedom we have in Christ Jesus.

Attitude is Everything- Keith Harrell

I’m a firm believer in how a man’s attitude can determine his altitude in life.

Attitude is Everything!
However, Attitude in itself is not the root issue, Perspective is. A man’s perspective determines his attitude. How you see life is how you respond/react to it.

In recent times, I’ve observed something about naturally optimistic people. Most of them have a buoyant perspective about life. Their minds are filled with an abundance of the riches and goodness of everything God has provided- wealth, health, relationships etc

They often sing, dance and laugh without excuses. Simple things make them glad. Victories both great and small, Achievements whether major or minor, are usually accompanied with celebrations. They go with the MANTRA- There’s always a Reason to be HAPPY.

While to a large extent, happiness depends on the happenings around us; The choice to be happy eventually lies with an individual. But there’s something even more breathtaking that a man can possess-it’s known as JOY. While anyone can be happy at any point in time, Joy is exclusive to we children of God because it’s a fruit of the Holyspirit (Galatians 5:22).

I’ll highlight three basic concepts that define/differentiate both:

  1. Happiness is an Emotional response while Joy is a Spiritual Manifestation.
  2. Happiness may be superficial and fleeting but Joy is deep and lasting.
  3. Sadness is the opposite of Happiness as Sorrow is the opposite of Joy.

God’s presence always exudes overflowing Joy. Releasing ourselves to partake of that Joy is where we often falter. As seen in John 16:24 and other passages, Jesus was particular about us having an Abundance (Fullness) of JOY.

When next we ask why we should rejoice when things around us don’t make sense, I want us to remember that our Joy is not dependent on mere happenings. The indwelling spirit of God continually floods us with Joy. It’s left for us to tune in.

My challenge to us, is to cultivate the habit of rejoicing, inspite of and despite the unpalatable situations that will come our way. Let the joy of God spur us to always be of Good CHEER. Since Joy cannot be masked, what better way is there to reproduce our inner Joy, on the outside than by: Singing, Laughing and Dancing! That way, no one can miss the evidence. Before long, people would ask you for the source of your joy, and you can tell them about Christ.

There’s a secret about rejoicing, it’s a catalyst for the influx of more blessings. Joyful People are thankful because they acknowledge not just what they have received, but what is yet to come. In that way, their Joy tank is always full.

Our Perspective in Life should shift from that of defeat to a deep sense of Gratitude. Gratitude itself is an Attitude, and since Attitude determines our choices, we should deliberately choose JOY over and over again, then express it through our Singing, Laughing and Dancing!

Rejoice in the Lord Always!
