GRACE…#1

The word ‘grace’ literally means ‘favour’
In Hebrew it is CHEN from a root word CHANAN – to bend or stoop in kindness to another as a superior to an inferior (Strongs 2603)
In Greek it is CHARIS and has the idea of graciousness in manner or action (Strongs 5485) it comes from a root word CHAIRO to be cheerful, happy (Strongs 5463)-Wikibooks.

If asked to summarize my Life in one simple word, I’ll use GRACE.

For me it’s been God’s grace all through the years. My life is defined, sustained and secured by the knowledge of that grace. Whatever good you see in me is a product of God’s unmerited favor.

I can’t begin to write all about my life now because I won’t know where to start or stop. Whenever I listen to this song GRACE, it’s as if the lyrics tell my story. It’s humbling to realize how much Christ did for me through his death on the cross. This is the part of the song that gets me every time:

“And there’ve been days when I’ve walked away
Too much to carry
Nothing left to say
Forgive me Lord when I’m weak and lost
You traded heaven for a wooden cross

And all these years you’ve carried me
You’ve been my eyes when I could not see
And beauty grows in the driving rain
Your oil of gladness in the times of pain”

His grace makes all the difference. I’m no longer limited by my past, my doubts, my fears, my weaknesses or anything else for that matter. I’m now free to live in victory and not in defeat. I have gladness instead of shame. My health and wealth, skills and abilities are found in him. I don’t have to rely on my own physical/mental strength anymore. The days of struggling are over. The experience is nothing but pure delight. And yes, there are days I seem to take his grace for granted, times when I foolishly neglect this great gift and go about trying to find my own way. It’s still this grace that pulls me back from my destruction into his righteousness.

This call goes to anyone who is yet to receive the free gift of SALVATION. God’s grace is still available. I implore you to make this life-changing decision TODAY.

And for you my dear brother/sister, keep growing in the GRACE, KNOWLEDGE and TRUTH that can only be found in CHRIST. The grace that has brought us this far, is the grace that will see us through.

IBA FELEDUA…#2

iba feledua

Hmmmn…now ‘Iba Feledua’ is a deep song. I just love it. And I hope you would too. For Non-Yoruba speaking readers, kindly bear with me because the song comes with a mix of the language. But you’ll get the meaning with time.

In summary the lyrics speak of the faithfulness of God through each phase of one’s Journey in life. As a Medical student, it’s especially challenging for me sometimes, so after every hurdle I successfully cross, my testimony is this:

“I came, I saw, I conquered…”

So dear friend, since God has brought you this far,  he will see you through till the end too. So don’t quit/give-up on your dream yet. There’s a dance at the end of the storm. A double joy for all your troubles. This trying time won’t last forever. It will end in PRAISE. I hope you’ll be blessed with the song as I’ve always been.

EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL…#3

seasons and changes..

Now this is one of my top-three favorites! I first heard this song while watching the movie “LETTERS TO GOD” (that’s like the most touching movie I’ve seen). It’s been about 5 years since that first time but I’ve not lost touch with either the movie or song. I must admit, the song sounds a bit ‘melancholic’, so it’ll probably make you cry more than smile.

There are times when life seems to be an unending puzzle. We go through a maze of circumstances that leave us with more questions than answers. There are days when we just want to curl under the sheets and not leave our beds. Oh, how we terribly long to be awakened from our nightmare. Other times, we want to scream out our questions at God from the rooftop. No, God doesn’t understand our plight, how can he?

* 14 months into a blissful Marriage, here comes an otherwise perfect daughter with Down Syndrome. Why God, Why?

* After 11 years of struggling through College and Medical School, he didn’t even make it through his One-year of Internship. It was just a car accident, two friends survived but he died. He was the only son of his parents. Does it make any sense at all?

* He didn’t choose to be born with Sickle-cell Anemia, yet he has to live with it daily. Every crisis is a fatal risk. The next moment a mere probability. While others make long-term plans about their future, he wonders when he’ll breathe his last. How does one live with that?

* One bad mistake and a 2-decade old marriage falls apart. Son joins the Gangsters. Daughter takes to drugs. Father now an Alcoholic. Mother a complete wreck. Who gets the blame?

* She is from a good christian home as far as we know. Her addiction to Porn is what no one realized. In our eyes she’s a saint…in her heart, she’s just filth. Can her messy life ever become whole?

*She was only six when she was raped. A stranger is one thing, her Father is another. Life was never the same again. Innocence was forever lost. Where was God that sad evening?

I don’t know the answers to those questions but they are as close to real life situations as possible. Your case or mine may not be that dramatic, or maybe it’s even worse, who knows?

When you’re buried in such deep questions and you can’t find the answers you so desperately seek, here is my advice: Relax. Breathe. Live. Take each day, one moment at a time. As you learn to trust the All-Knowing, All-Powerful and All-Wise God; No matter the battle you are facing, you’ll experience VICTORY, and No matter the pain you have right now, it’ll end in PRAISE…because Everything is BEAUTIFUL!

PS: It’s okay to ask. It’s okay to cry. It’s okay to be hurt. But don’t stop there. The HEALING Waters await you!

NOBODY LIKE YOU LORD…#4

Nobody like you Lord

“The dusk came,

and brought with it a sigh..

The wind blew,

the trees were tossed in fright..

The ground shook,

and everywhere was dark..

The night stayed,

no stars to light the sky..

My heart cried,

not a friend was in sight..

My soul sank,

and longed for someone dear..

He came nigh,

and wrapped me in his arms..

For how long,

I cannot tell you now..

The sun rose,

and beamed into my face..

I woke up,

a smile formed on my lips..

The storm ceased,

 and dawn is here again..”

The above piece illustrates the state of a lonely soul on a very dark night. At some point in our lives, there are burdens we must bear and battles we must fight ALONE. They come in different shapes and sizes. For some of us, it’s the struggle against forces from our past; Nemesis from previous wrong choices may threaten to catch up and rob us of our present joy. For some others, it’s the overwhelming state of huge financial debt or some silent disease that keeps them subdued. And for another set of people, it’s the uncertainty that comes with tomorrow that makes them afraid. When I’m faced with such dark moments and think no one understands, I’m reminded that “there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24b). God sees, hears, knows and cares. He is my PEACE. I can turn over any situation to him whether it’s about my PAST, PRESENT or FUTURE.

And that brings me to the song ‘NOBODY LIKE YOU LORD’. The lyrics emphasize the faithfulness of God through the thick and thin. He is RELIABLE, DEPENDABLE & UNCHANGEABLE. Even when we give-up on ourselves, he remains CONSTANT. He’ll never leave nor forsake us. I hope you’ll be encouraged with the song as I have been.

TAKE OVER…#5

An highlight of my National Youth Service was being part of the Nigerian Christian Corpers Fellowship (NCCF) while on the Orientation Camp. The experience is part of my making today. ”Take Over” was one of the profound songs I learnt during that period. It’s message is recurrent and very relevant to my growth as a believer uptil now.

take over

To be honest, it’s easy to get carried away by the situations and circumstances that surround us. On the average, what we see, hear and feel make up a great percentage of our actions and reactions everyday. We can get so consumed by our wants, desires and ambitions, that we leave no room for God to do his work with/through us. Our obsession for worldly possessions put us in a place of depression. We continually feel oppressed by other people’s success on display and all we do is struggle to attain, sustain, retain or regain our goals.

We are often at risk to neglect the biblical injunction in Matthew 6:33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you“.

The song is always a wake-up call to remind me of what is truly important. My deepest longing is to be consumed by nothing else but God. When my focus is on him, ephemeral things lose their significance and I can view life from a different perspective. In the grand scheme of things, life was never about me anyway, it’s ALWAYS all about GOD. And in his omniscience, he’ll cause everything that happens to you and me to work out for our good, if we let him. I hope you’ll be blessed by the song as I have been.

MOVING FORWARD…#6

MOVING FORWARD….{Hezekiah Walker}

Life at its best is no smooth ride. Every moment is like a journey into the unknown. There will be bumps, twists & turns and definitely stops along the way. Most set-backs are mere step-backs for a couple of come-backs. No matter the disappointment you’re facing now, one day the shadows will lift, the sun will shine and you will smile again.

moving forward

Let me briefly take you with me down my memory lane. I heard the song ‘MOVING FORWARD‘ for the first time at the NCCF Osun state conference in the early part of 2012. It became particularly meaningful several months later, when I lost an admission I had really set my heart upon. I thought I had the right connection, information, requirements et al…but I was disappointed. My expectations crashed to “zero point”, and the situation was helplessly hopeless since I had no back-up plan(s). The only plausible thing to do was to re-apply to that same institution the following year. Then this song became rampant both in my heart and on my lips. I just knew I wasn’t going to get stuck for an entire year. I simply refused to give in to frustration. And sooner than expected, other opportunities rolled by, and God worked something out for my favor.

So your own story might be a bit more complicated than mine, maybe you’ve just lost a job, or that relationship didn’t work out, or you have to take that course/class again, things may be pretty hard for you now; But I encourage you to give hope a chance, rise above your ashes and take a step of faith forward. That first step may be the hardest but perhaps the most important on your path to recovery and ultimate victory.
Soon enough, you’ll be running, jumping and even soaring above your limitations into your expectations.

God is ready to heal you, raise you and give you a fresh start. So give him your hand and follow him forward>>>

**Moving Forward Lyrics**

I’m not going back, moving ahead
I’m here to declare to You my past is over
In You all things are made new
Surrendered my life to Christ, I’m moving, moving forward

What a moment You have brought me to
Such a freedom, Lord, I have found in You
You’re the Healer who makes all things new
Yeah, yeah, yeah!

You have risen with all power in Your hands
You have given me a second chance
Hallelujah, yes! Hallelujah
Yeah, yeah, yeah!

You make all things new
Yes, You make all things new
And I will follow You forward

I NEED YOU ONCE AGAIN…#7

To every song, there is a story, and To every story there is a season.“. That sums up what my posts for the rest of this month will be about. Although there are many songs I know that bring certain nostalgia of some place, face or situation; I’ve narrowed them to 7 of my “current” favorite playlist songs. I’ll share the lyrics/link to the song, my story and maybe some lesson(s) I picked during that season. I hope you’ll be INSPIRED.

Okay, let’s roll!

I NEED YOU ONCE AGAIN…{Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir}

Are you presently in a valley of uncertainty, where you feel all the hopes/aspirations you’ve built over the years are being dashed to the ground? Or maybe you are at cross-roads with so many options that leave you altogether more confused? Well, I’ve been there too. I had this experience few years back.

I need you

It was December of 2012, two months after I completed my National Youth Service. An older friend invited me to the Annual REALITY CONFERENCE (by Transfiguration Ark Revival Mission); It was exactly what I needed, because I was just there at home not really sure of how to go about my future plans. I still recall that Year’s theme clearly: “The builder of all things is God” (Hebrews 3:4). And as the Choir ministered this particular song I NEED YOU ONCE AGAIN, it was as though the burdens of my heart were laid open and my earnest prayers came forth through its lyrics. After the program, I went home uplifted and soon enough my testimony came through.

God gives us the wisdom to make the right decisions at every point if we ask him. Not every open door leads to victory, some are mere distractions. And not all closed doors signify defeat, maybe you just need to knock the right one. I hope you’ll be encouraged with the song like I was. Here are the lyrics:

Verse 1
Decisions must be made
and now I have a choice,
I need your wisdom Lord
I need to hear your voice
I’m facing challenges
and the walls are closing in..
I’m crying out to you, my one true,
faithful friend.

Verse 2
I know you are the one that guides me day by day
the answer’s found in you
you’re the truth, the life, the way.
When others seem to fail,
and troubles all around
Lord, you’re always standing there
the one true hope I found.
Chorus
Hear my prayer oh lord
I need you in my life
I cry to you
oh, lord.
please lead me to the light
show me the way
oh lord
and cleanse me from my sin
(Jesus, I need you)
I need you once again
I need you
I need you once again

ATTITUDE CHALLENGE!

So this is the first post for the month of APRIL. A shout-out to everyone that has been of support since the year started. You’re ALL appreciated. This piece was originally written one of those days while in the Operating Theater. I believe someone needs to read it at this time. I struggled to get it published, but it’s finally here. Glory to God! ************************ attitude.. Dear Child of God, who you’re today is not by Accident even if you think otherwise. Your background, ethnicity, & life challenges are not enough to stop the great plans God has for you. Wherever you are, and whatever you do, you can MAKE a Difference. This is to you Amaka, You say “I am just a CLEANER there o, I don’t count much“. Hmmmn…my sister, imagine if there was no cleaner in that office and everywhere was left dirty and untidy…imagine the sight and smell that would accompany it. What if the toilets were not washed, if the floors were not swept and if the cobwebs were not removed? Would clients and customers be able to patronize that business-place/institution? I think not! Other members of staff won’t be able to cope if there was no clean office to work in. No wonder everyone counts on your punctuality to keep the building running. Even places like Aso rock and the white house won’t be so elegant without dutiful cleaners. So do your job with a smile on your face today, because you’re useful, and you’re making a BIG difference in your own small way. And you Mr. Kola, don’t think that you’re a mere gate-man/security guard. The safety of the goods and services, and importantly the staff of your company depends on you. Imagine if every Tom, Dick and Harry entered into the office compound unrestricted. Imagine the rowdiness and disorder. Imagine if there was no one to open the gate for a visitor/potential customer. Imagine if other members of staff have to come out of their cars to open the gate whenever they drive in or out. That would be cumbersome. You’re making a BIG difference in your own small way. So give that job your very best shot. Lastly, dear John, you’re 22 years old already and the only reason you still work as a messenger in that bank is because you can’t afford to go to the University and there’s no one to sponsor you. Every morning you resume with a long face and every evening you go home in Frustration. Everyday you see young men and women like you in their ’20s and 30s’ sitting behind polished desks attending to customers, and you sigh at your own miserable life. Let me tell you this, your contribution to the day-to-day running of the office is indispensable. Imagine if the Managing Director goes from her office to the first floor herself everytime to dispatch some files or if members of staff leave their unfinished tasks to get lunch 30-minutes drive away. What about getting the office supplies and so on? Don’t you see how valuable you are? Don’t allow anyone to make you feel otherwise. The same goes for You reading this post. You’re valuable in whatever you find yourself doing as long as you’re contributing positively to the good of humanity. You may not be where you want to be yet, but you can do your BEST where you find yourself now. “Whatsoever your hand finds to do {TODAY}, do it with thy might…” Ecclesiastes 9:10 and “…as unto the Lord”. Colossians 3:23. So I want you to take this up as an Attitude Challenge, You’re not anybody’s doormat, You’re important and your place is necessary. Your present circumstance does not determine your future outcome. So with a smile on your face, and with determination in your heart, set out to make a DIFFERENCE in your world today…and START FROM WHERE YOU ARE. Cheers. Thank you for reading! Requ1ne.
