Loving your Neighbor…1

Woow! It feels like ages since I last came here.
So much to do even without the books…
I had high hopes that there will be so much time to flex around writing and keep things rolling but as fate would have it, there has really been no time.
And where time was available, there were no adequate facilities, and where facilities were not lacking, motivation was absent! Loool.

Tonight, I just felt it was high time I put something on this blog…abi?
Actually, there’s been a little inspiration *winks*
Have a good read!

‘Love your neighbor as yourself, and not more than yourself. [Emphasis mine]

So the gist is this, why is loving my neighbor practically difficult?
I have come to realize that it is easier to love people when we truly love ourselves.
I have personally come to appreciate the power of loving one’s self.
My mom defines love as wanting God’s best for a person at all times (In this case, one’s self), whether you will benefit from it directly or not. #Emphasis mine. Anything short of that in my opinion, is not love.

According to the bible, love is patient, kind, humble, truthful, hopeful, forgiving, not proud, not envious, not dubious and many more.

How much of these have we applied to ourselves in the first place? little wonder it’s usually next to impossible to extend the same grace towards other people.

Often-times, what we think is love is not love. Let me explain.
Self-deceit and indulgence are two common culprits that impersonate love.

For instance, A man who claims to love himself and wants to enjoy life, indulges in alcohol and slowly begins to kill himself.
Or a student who prefers to watch movies instead of studying, hardly realizes he/she is on the way to unavoidable failure.

There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end of it is destruction. (Proverbs 16:25).

Be wise! Love yourself in the light of God’s word today. Have a beautiful Easter season, remember ‘Jesus saves’.

PART 3: In Conclusion.

‘But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which his presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge]’. –Galatians 5:22-23, AMP Version.

The beautiful thing about (most) fruits is that they are seasonal. People know when to expect what, and usually such expectations are met. This brings me to a friend’s analogy of the christian-life; a life in Christ is expected to bring forth fruit(s) in due season i.e. whenever the situation warrants it. Many times we fall short of living by the spirit and bearing fruits, because we fail to realize how much is expected of us.

This is the concluding part of what seemed to start as some ‘endless questions‘ with no sense of direction in my mind whatsoever. Anyway, between then and now, I have been enlightened and inspired (with the help of the Holy-spirit), by friends, situations and God’s word. By writing this particular series, I’m delighted to say that I am becoming better than I used to be.

I hope you will be inspired too.

The Questions!

Those Questions…

My Questions,

Your Questions,

Their Questions,

All Our endless Questions!

The Answers,

We want the answers!

To the griefs we bear,

The tears we shed,

Our hurts and pain,

The maltreatment and humiliation:

The entire package that comes with the cross!

Yes! The cross of Christ to which we cling

We need answers to why we can’t treat others maliciously,

if they treat and cheat us so…

We need answers to why we can’t cut corners to get rich quick,

when what others do is gamble and hustle…

We need answers to why some of our well-made plans fail woefully,

and the world mocks us on contemptuously…

We need many answers,

To about a 1000 to infinity questions!

We want those answers fast,

And we want them NOW!

What if we don’t really need all the answers,

To our hows and whys, whats and whens;

What if all we truly need is reassurance,

A complete faith in the love and mercy of God?

What if these trials are meant to be part of our journey:

To be cursed but choose to bless others,

To be hurt but choose to be strong,

To live peacefully in the midst of chaos,

To serve honestly in the thick of corruption,

To persevere within the many travails…

To let our lights shine and let our praises rise!

To bring forth fruits to God’s glory and shame the devil…

To endure and remain blameless until the very end_

What if this is what we must do,

When situations stretch us and frustrations step in…

To pray for God’s strength and trust in his grace,

That I think is what we must do…

So again I ask, How much is too much?

Nothing is really too much for God’s children to bear,

And nothing is too much for God’s children to give,

For his grace is always sufficient in every situation we face,

We know we can win because Christ has won already!

In all our questions, the hows, whens, whys and whats…

Let us remember that ‘nothing shall separate us from the love of Christ’. [Romans 8:39]. SHALOM!

PART 2 of the PART 1!

The breeze of exams is finally over (at least for now) until a couple of months time!

In other words, I hope to see MORE of this blog, write MORE articles & get MORE feed-backs.

There is always a big expectation that comes with that one word…

The aspiration to reach some height, meet some goal or have a desire fulfilled_

It’s one beautiful word that has been my friend for years,

It keeps me smiling when the sun so beautifully shines,

And wipes my tears in the dark and star-less nights;

Hope soothes my worries and makes my fears nought,

It awakens me with ideas and helps me to think great thoughts;

Hope renews my strength when all I want to do is give up,

And has a way of making things happen in God’s own beautiful time.

HOPE is that friend that I hope I will always have,

And I hope you will like to make HOPE your very dear friend too.

Okay, let’s get to the PART 2.

***      ***      ***     ***      ***      ***

The questions are fewer today than the last time,

Not because I have more answers now than I did then,

Let’s just say now I have a better idea about what was on my mind,

A more concrete approach to those questions that poked me sore…

The whys, the whats, the whens and the hows_

Those things that make us cry, those things that make us sigh,

Those things that give us pain, those things that make us pale,

The sowing that seem to be without reaping,

The giving that seem to be without returns,

The prayers that seem to have no response,

The labor that seem to have no rewards…

Many Questions without satisfactory Answers,

All Efforts tending to be futile and in vain,

Frustrations piling up like thick clouds,

And all we are ever told to do is Wait!

We tend to ask why?

Why is this happening at all???

We tend to ask what?

What is the reason behind it???

We tend to ask when?

When will there be the expected change???

We tend to ask how?

How much more of it can we take???

PS: I’ll have to stop here for now.Image

It’s such a long post already.
